What You Need to Know about ZOLL AED Plus and ZOLL AED Pro

1 April 2023

ZOLL AED Plus and ZOLL AED Pro are two defibrillators manufactured by ZOLL Medical Corporation, a leading provider of resuscitation products and software solutions. Both devices are designed to provide emergency treatment for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in individuals of all ages, but there are several key differences between the two models.

ZOLL AED Plus

The ZOLL AED Plus is a compact, portable device that is easy to use and is designed for lay rescuers. It features Real CPR Help, a technology that provides real-time feedback on the rate and depth of chest compressions. The device also has a simple interface with clear, concise instructions that guide the user through the rescue process.

ZOLL AED Pro

The ZOLL AED Pro, on the other hand, is designed for professional rescuers, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, physiotherapist. It has a larger, more rugged design and is designed for heavy use in emergency medical services (EMS) environments. The AED Pro features an advanced algorithm that helps rescuers deliver high-quality CPR and defibrillation, even in challenging conditions. The device also has a built-in manual override function that allows rescuers to deliver shocks at a higher energy level if necessary.

Point of Differences

One of the key differences between the ZOLL AED Plus and the ZOLL AED Pro is their user interface. The AED Plus has a simple, intuitive interface that is easy for lay rescuers to use. The AED Pro has a more advanced interface that provides professional rescuers with additional information and options. This includes the ability to monitor the patient's ECG, as well as real-time feedback on the quality of CPR being delivered.

The ZOLL AED Plus and AED Pro also differ in terms of battery life. The AED Plus® defibrillator is powered by Duracell type 123 lithium batteries that can last for 5 years, while the AED Pro has a replaceable and non-replaceable battery that can last for 4 years if not used in the rescue. The AED Pro also has a battery backup system that allows the device to continue functioning even if the main battery fails.

Another difference between the two devices is their available accessories. The AED Plus has a limited number of accessories, including a carrying case and extra electrodes. The AED Pro has a wider range of accessories, including an external battery pack, a 3-lead ECG cable, and a manual override key.

See-Thru CPR® technology filters out compression artifacts from the ECG monitor, allowing advanced rescuers to see the underlying heart rhythm while performing CPR. See-Thru CPR, when combined with the optional manual override feature, allows rescuers to reduce pause time by detecting a shockable heart rhythm and administering therapy immediately rather than waiting until the next analysis cycle. When the crash cart arrives, AED Pro electrodes can be seamlessly transferred to other ZOLL® defibrillators.

The ZOLL AED Plus and AED Pro also differ in terms of price. The AED Plus is less expensive than the AED Pro, making it more accessible to lay rescuers and organizations with limited budgets. The AED Pro, on the other hand, is more expensive due to its advanced features and rugged design.
